End Of Old Colliery Village - With the close of this week the colliery village of Smithston, Eastern Dumbartonshire, which had a very primitive type of mining residences, has been evacuated. Comprising between seventy and eighty dwellings, the village was wholly brick-built, with crescent-shaped tarred roofs, and primitive sanitary arrangements. The inhabitants are being housed at a new County Council housing scheme at Overcroy, about a couple of miles away, where the residents of the now extinct Croy hamlet have also been housed.
